Cleaning Stuffed Animals!

12/5/2012

During my time as a collector I have been avoding buying stuffed animals (even if I deep down want them) since I have been unsure about cleaning them.

I would NOT wash my collective stuffed animals in the  washing machine or even give them a full hand wash since it cane ruin there shape.

My number one choce would be surface cleaning!!

Sure if you get an old toy and they do have a funny smell it may not go away, but I do think that yu should try it first

So when I got my Sulley from the convention I did my best to clean him up!

If you have seen my previous post you know that he still is on his card and havn't been played with, this doesn't mean that he isn't dirty!!

This is a 10 years old toy that have been stored somewhere and of course he is coverd in dust, evan if he does look clean you can feel it when you touch it.

Cleaning is were simple, you just need a few things:
-  Vaccum cleaner (take of the nozzle and make sure to clean the tube)
- Two towls
- Washing powder
- Water
- A comb (if it has long hair like mine)

Picture
Step one: vaccum clean the whole toy! Dont forget any fold like under the arms, ears, tails or so one.
Use circled movment , dont just follow the direction of the hair.
I went over mine twice to make sure I got as much out as poseble.

If it is on a card like mine be carful to not damage it while cleaning the back.

Step two: Take one of the towls and wet a corner with water, press as much water out as you can. It will still be wet enough water in it but it will not soak the toy.
Rub the towl in circuler movment, smal part a time.
Picture
Step three: After doing one part, an arm, leg or head, take the other towl and rubb the toy dry.
Yuo dont want to leave it wet!

After that go back to step two and do another part of its body.

Remember to wet a new part of the towl when it starts to get too dirty, its no use cleaing it with dirt.

This is how my towl looked after just cleaning the head and one arm AFTER using the vaccum cleaner.

On some part of my toy the hair was sticky. Most of it I got ut with cleaning with just water but this big spot didn't.

So what I did was put some water in a bowl with some washing powder.
I would not clean the whole toy with it since I would proberly not get it all out, so water is better.
Picture
To clean out the stickyness I took my comb and gattered the parts that were sticky, than I wet my towl with the washing powder-water and rubbed it on top of the comb.
When its clean it will just fall between the theet of the comb and I can concentrate at just the stickyness.

After that I to step two and three on the part that was sticky.

And here are the after results:

After that I run my comb all over it in a 20 degree angle, just to straighting  it out.

And now its done!

Hopefully this will help some one, when I started to collect I had no idea how to clean any of my toys, but with time and help from fellow collector and internet you will learn.

And I'm sorry for all the spelling mistakes, but right now I'm home and sick so I dont really have the motivation so fix them all ^^' SORRY!
